How to use the Under Seat Storage Cover
One of the things we loved about our old Tacoma was all of the storage in the cab. There were storage bins under the back seats and behind them. Matthew used to hide Snickers bars in one of those cubbies to eat after long bike rides—something you can get away with most of the time here in foggy San Francisco.
The under-seat storage in the Rivian is a little less functional. The large area can turn into a bit of a black hole with smaller items sliding around. So, when we designed the cover, we also created some dividers that can break up the space into more usable sections. Here's what we have in our truck's storage area this afternoon.
As you can see, we're only using one of the dividers because the other area has a couple of gear bags, keeping it relatively organized.
Here are the instructions for installing yours:
Standing outside the driver's side back door, flip up both seats. You may need to move the front seats forward a bit if they are very far back. If you are using the optional dividers, empty the under-seat storage area. With the Thunderbolt Logo at the top left, slide the divider into the slots that divide the storage area into three. This will be a tight fit. It will look like the top photo at this point. Make sure that the dividers do not stick up proud of the top of the storage bin. When you replace your stored items in the storage area, make sure they do not extend above the top of the storage area rim.
The cover sits on top of the opening, as pictured in the bottom photo, and the bamboo brackets keep the seats from falling down during quick acceleration. The seats will still move some, but they won't close. The slim profile allows you to keep the cover in place with the seats folded down for passenger seating.
If our dog is riding in the back with the seats folded up, we often put a folded packing blanket or a dog bed down for her comfort. If we're transporting boxes, we just set them on the cover.
