Wow—what a week!
Last week, we hosted a pop-up just a few blocks from our house, right across from the new San Francisco Rivian Space. It was an absolute whirlwind, and on Saturday alone, I must have talked to more than a thousand people!
Rivian’s celebrations for the new space reflected the incredible diversity of both the Bay Area and the Rivian community. Friday night’s party featured a funk band, remarks from San Francisco’s new mayor (a fellow Rivian driver!), and plenty of great conversations between Rivian executives, local merchants, and Rivian Club leaders.
Saturday morning kicked off with professional MTB racer Kate Courtney leading a gravel ride through the city. Kate got her start racing in the same high school league our son now competes in. She’s since launched an independent race program to encourage more women and girls to get into the sport, with Rivian as one of her newest sponsors—a full-circle moment in so many ways.
While the cyclists rode toward Golden Gate Park, a caravan of Rivian drivers wound through some of San Francisco’s most scenic spots—including the iconic, crooked stretch of Lombard Street. The drive wrapped up with a lunch for Rivian owners that spilled out from the Fell Street showroom onto Linden and right into our pop-up. We had a blast meeting fellow Rivian enthusiasts, including another mountain bike family from Utah who recently moved near Santa Rosa, right by the trails of Annadel State Park!
Meanwhile, Rivian was busy introducing itself to the city and neighborhood. That evening, the Eclectic & Electric Night Market on Hayes Street brought out so many of our neighbors to soak in the energy. It was fun watching their reactions when they spotted our rig fully decked out—"So this is what you two have been up to!"
Matthew and I want to offer our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made our San Francisco pop-up such a huge success. There are too many people to name, but we’re especially grateful to the folks from Rivian Clubs of America, the incredible staff from the new SF Rivian Space (along with Rivian employees who traveled in from all over), and our generous Hayes Valley neighbors.
We feel so lucky to be part of these amazing communities—thank you!
